Happenings since Jan 14th '08

What has happened in the celebrity world since the 14th of January? Much! Take a look at our brief overview of major happenings in Hollywood below.
  • The main news in January was the unexpected and shocking death of Australian actor Heath Ledger on January 22 in his SoHo apartment. Heath's former fiancee, Michelle Williams, rushed to NYC from Sweden - where she was filming her latest movie - with their two-year-old daughter Matilda. February 9 saw hundreds gather for the memorial service in Perth, Australia; with mourners later taking a dip at Cottesloe Beach to remember their beloved friend.
  • Britney Spears never really left the spotlight, being committed on January 31 at the UCLA Medical Centre - papa Jamie was given control of her assets.
  • February 1 saw the Spice Girls cancel several countries on their world tour - leaving fans in Australia, China and Argentina out in the cold.
  • The writers' strike ended 100 days on February 10 - which meant the Oscars were back on!
  • Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony welcomed twins, a boy and a girl, on February 22.
  • Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt confirmed, in their own way, that they are in deed expecting bub #5 on February 23, at the Film Independent's Spirit Awards - leaving the next question to be: is it twins??

Globes Update - What's Happening With the Strike

The 65th Annual Golden Globes will go ahead on January 13th, but many a star - nominated or otherwise - will not be filling the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The stars are lining up in droves to support the Writers Guild of America, who have been striking for at least a month and a half over not getting a cut in Internet downloads of the shows they work on. A threatened picket line by the WGA has made several stars up for a Globe announce they will not be attending. Confirmed stars not attending: Keira Knightley, out of respect for her writer mum; Medium's Patricia Arquette; Australian stars Cate Blanchett, Rachel Griffiths and Russell Crowe; Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, John Travolta and Johnny Depp. The American Screen Actors Guild has announced a "unanimous" decision by the stars listed above, as well as others, to boycott the Globes this year.
